A&D Dolls Atelier
A&D Dolls Atelier is an independent design house devoted to the art of fashion dolls and to the creation of miniature couture for discerning collectors. Each garment is conceived as an object of design in its own right, inviting collectors to explore the art of dressing, interpretation, and transformation.
Since 2011, A&D Dolls has occupied a distinctive place within the world of fashion dolls, renowned for its meticulously rendered OOAK characters inspired by celebrated figures of the cultural and entertainment world. Distinguished by exceptional precision, a bold artistic vision, and an almost photographic sense of realism, these figures have become highly sought-after collector’s pieces. Founded by Vasilii Barbier and Sergey Amelkov, the Atelier has gradually expanded its artistic language to include couture and red-carpet-inspired creations, each reflecting an uncompromising attention to proportion, construction, fit, and finish.
The creative process begins with the study of haute couture and the work of its most influential masters, among them Cristóbal Balenciaga and Christian Dior. Historical references are not reproduced literally; instead, they serve as a foundation for reinterpretation. Through careful design and hand sewing, familiar forms are transformed into new compositions conceived specifically for the scale and character of the doll.
The Secret Garden Collection, for example, explores the language of the couture gown through an unexpected interior landscape. Luxuriant chiffon flowers are concealed beneath the skirts, creating what Vasily Barbier describes as an inverted bouquet, gathered at the waist with a delicate bow. Such details reveal the Atelier’s fascination with what remains unseen as much as with what is presented to the eye.
Particular attention is given to the relationship between garment and body. Each design is individually adapted to the distinctive proportions of different sculpts — including Silkstone, Poppy Parker, and Fashion Royalty — ensuring that the silhouette, drape, and balance of the original concept are preserved at miniature scale.
Today, the work of A&D Dolls Atelier represents a meeting of fashion, craftsmanship, portraiture, and miniature art — a continuing exploration of couture through the unique and intimate language of the fashion doll.
